For the past few weeks, our office has been working hard on laying the foundations for our Jr. High Retreat in November. We have been working closely with Teri Valente from the Diocese of Delaware to imagine what the program might look like and what goals, objectives, and values there are for the weekend.
How do we do this?
It all starts with Scripture readings and prayer.
Over a few phone conversations and face-to-face meetings, we looked at the Revised Common Lectionary texts for the weekend of November 9th. from that, we came up with a few ideas and a basic structure of what the weekend will look like:
What are some of the things we will be doing over the weekend? Here's some of what you can expect:
- Friday night mixers and get-to-know you games
- Worship and prayer times daily (in the morning and evening)
- Structured small group discussion
- A field trip to the National Constitution Center on Saturday morning
- Lunch, large group games, and crafts in Fairmount Park
- Sunday morning Eucharist service at St. Luke's Church
...and much much more!
The next step in our planning process is to put a schedule on paper and develop the programming for our large and small group discussion times. We'll also work out logistical details (like making reservations, reserving transportation, hospitality, etc.) for the weekend.
I love the retreat planning process. I hope that you will join us November 7-9 to see the end result!
What is the best thing you've experienced while on a youth retreat? Tell us about it in the comments section below!
Youth in grades 6-8 are invited to join us at the Episcopal Mission Center at St. Luke's, Germantown for this retreat. You can register your group for the retreat here. In order to secure your group's spot, be sure to register early! We'll take registrations through Friday, October 31st.
