During the morning small group session, these groups processed Dorian's talk about the topic, "Who is God?" As a part of this process, each small group wrote a prayer that was shared with everyone during our Eucharist service on Sunday. While writing these prayers, individuals were invited to think about how they experience God, and the qualities and characteristics that God represents to them.
Here are the prayers from this weekend. As you read them, think about who God is to you.
Teaching God, help us understand You in Your contrasts. As Divine Creator, the Holy beyond us, yet as Christ incarnate as one of us. Help us understand Your image within us, yet accept our moral faults. Help us, in knowing both your image and our faults within us, to love others in their contrasts as completely as you love us. In your holy name as Creator and Christ incarnate among us we pray. Amen.
Almighty God, we pray to you to guide us in the right path and make you proud through our actions. We pray to you that you lead us away from sin. In all good and even bad, we know your love will be with us forever. We give you thanks for our time together and ask you bless us as we journey homeward. Jesus loves us and thinks we're groovy. Amen.
Dear God, you have made us in your image: Spirit made flesh with the ability to question, and wonder, and ponder how we are like you. Thank you for the ability to think and reason, and create, for a lifetime. Help us to be aware of the injustices around us, for the courace to take action; for the possibility of dreaming for a better world. Thank you for believing in your creations. And help us remember that every person that we meet is a child of God. Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to give us life and to connect us to each other. Amen.
Dear God, Thank you for bringing us together, and for the opportunity to grow closer to You. We pray for Malaysia Flight 370 and a safe return. We pray for anyone deployed overseas or in areas of conflict. Help us to have forgiveness for the past, knowledge for the present, and give us hope and strength for the future. Amen.
God, thank you for: the perfect imperfections, being a light at the end of a tunnel, pushing us through pain in life, for life you've given us, opportunities whether taken or missed, gifts and talents to share, for this time you have given us, for opportunity to reflect on your love for us, for what your love holds for our future, your presence, which is never ceasing, your blessing that is with us everyday, your faith in us that always prevails. Amen.
