Coming from a large family with over 30 cousins, I spend a lot of time around kids and I know how invaluable a mentor can be to them. I feel being a camp counsellor will be a rewarding and positive way to spend my summer through influencing the children and in turn, them influencing me.
City Camp is a great way to give back to the community, all round act like a goofball and create many happy memories for myself and all others involved.
Many of my friends are out to earn money this summer, but for me, City Camp isn't about what I'll put in the bank, it's about what I'll put into my mind and soul and I think that's what sets it apart from the other camps out there. City Camp is a fantastic opportunity that will help to awaken the faith, instill character and good values in all those involved in it and being a community project it will help to create a sense of family within the community and bring everyone closer together, and let's face it, with an overly enthusiastic ginger Irish girl at it, of course City Camp's going to be awesome!
This summer is probably the biggest adventure of my lifetime and I have the biggest grin on my face every time I think about it. I am very excited to meet so many new people (seriously though, my mum told me my hobby as a child would be to go to the park and make new friends) and I cannot wait for the sense of camaraderie that I know City Camp has.
In a world plagued with electronics, mobiles and computers, summer camp is an excellent way to get away from all that, unplug and connect with the world around you as well as make lifelong friends and grow as a person.
Camp is a way for kids to learn positive characteristics and attributes and City Camp especially has this capability through exploring the Christian faith in a fun and approachable way in a relaxed environment. The Church has always been a way for the local community to come together and grow through serving Christ and City Camp is a way of helping to pass on the faith to the younger generation and help to build a strong youth ministry.
I am chomping at the bit to get over to Philadelphia and share my many talents, tea, experiences and smiles with all of you. This summer is going to be an amazing experience to connect with God, make friends and ultimately, have fun and I can’t wait for the exciting adventure to begin!
Slán go foil (Bye for now.)
