(Stop reading for a minute and ask everyone in the room with you! This is a great conversation to have with your kids and friends!)
Did you say you were Princess Leia in Star Wars, a character from The Hobbit, or maybe David from the Old Testament? Maybe you would be Dr. King leading the civil rights movement, Frodo Baggins from the Lord of the Rings, or Rapunzel from Tangled? What gifts and what struggles does your character have? What does your character say about you? What does your character teach you about the world? What does your character say about God?
Faith is an adventure that starts when you’re born. Being born is the first miracle you experienced…and then how many more? When have you felt the Holy Spirit move within you, urging you toward your higher-self? Have you heard, felt or known, “Fear not…” before having a personal epiphany? (Angels always being with that tag line, Lyons says).
Don’t be afraid to ask Judy to the prom... don’t be afraid to make a career change... don’t be afraid to say you are sorry.
God speaks to us everyday journey. When we open our hearts up to hear God, sometimes we hear, feel or know that God is moving us and with us on this adventure.
When on your journey has God come so close to you that you have heard a whisper in your ear? When, on your adventure, has a river been parted, manna fallen from heaven or you have been healed? Or more simply, today, how has God been present in your life?
Like the character from Pilgrim’s Progress, we will all encounter pits of despair, suffer like the centuries of freedom fighters when we oppose injustice, or have at least one relative like Darth Vader (hopefully not more). But that’s ok. We need something to defeat. That’s part of the story. It makes the awesome parts that much better and gives us lessons in true self worth, justice, compassion, and many others, along the way.
The good, the bad, the difficult, the easy, the beautiful, the ugly: your Epic Adventure is sure to be all of these things. Your Faith Story is how you allowed God to travel with you through it. Safe travels, Pilgrim. Journey on…

Brianna Foti is the Education and Activities Coordinator at St. Christopher's Church in Gladwyne, PA. The character in her epic adventure is Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games, and she would love to hear who your character is, too!
