Sometimes, however, parents may not feel equipped to have these important faith conversations at home. We can help parents by providing resources for families to engage in fellowship, worship, prayer, and Scripture. With Advent quickly approaching, now is the perfect time to encourage families to participate in devotions together. Below you will find a list of free resources you can share with families in your parish. Some are websites, some are calendars, and some engage families in deeper conversation and Bible study. There's something for everyone!
This resource, from of the Office of Youth Ministry, provides youth and adults with daily Scripture readings and prayers, all in 140 characters or less! Advent Family Devotion Calendar
This daily Advent calendar, released through the Episcopal Church Foundation Vital Practices, gives a suggested Scripture reading and devotion for each day of Advent. This resource is available as a downloadable PDF file on the ECF Vital Practices website.
This resource from BRF, an Anglican discipleship resource company in the UK, is an online collection of short videos (each about 1 minute in length) that give a modern interpretation of the Christmas story. The site also includes links to some activities and Scripture readings. The videos can be watched one after the other or episodically over a longer period of time. A good way to use these videos would be to read the portion of the Christmas story portrayed, then to watch the video as a family. You can visit the Paperless Christmas site at this link!
