This week on the Youth Ministry Blog, we are suggesting some games based on movies!
Spoofs & Remakes and Cups
Find a script from any movie that your group collectively know well, and print out a few short, well-known scenes. Then, split your group into two teams. Instruct each team to create a "spoof" of the scene. Each team should have all creative licenses. Make sure there are enough scripts for the groups to share, and each time has plenty of time to practice. Have judges critique their enthusiasm, interpretation, use of space, etc. You could also play this game with skits or scenes from popular plays or musicals.
In the film Pitch Perfect, Anna Kendrick debuts a classic “cup” game with a new flare and a new song. Many tweens and teens have perfected this game from the film. Try playing this game as a group activity, and then slowly transition into a competition.
Here's a tutorial on how to do the different moves in the cup game:
This is also a great game to play when you need a time filler at a retreat, camp, or other youth event. The senior high students the Province III Youth Event played this game after every meal last spring. It was a hit!
Thanks for sharing these games with us, John! Check back here next week for more games you can try with your group!
