Divide the group into smaller groups of 5-10 people. Each table should have one die and a pen in the middle, as well as an index card for each person. Each group selects a person to go first – or the game leader designates someone such as, “The person wearing the most red.” The die is passed around the table with each player getting one roll to try to get a 6. If a player does not roll a 6 on his turn, he passes the dice to the next player. If he does roll a 6, he picks up the pen and begins writing numbers on his index card in order starting with “1.” Players continue to pass the die, each trying to roll a 6 while the player who got a 6 continues to write numbers “1…2…3…4…5”. When another player rolls a 6 he yells “Pen!” and takes the pen from the player writing numbers. Play continues until a player writes all of the numbers from 1-50. This person is the winner of the round.
This is a fun word game! Any player can start the game by naming a random letter of the alphabet. Players then take turns adding letters to the fragment. The goal is to avoid completing an actual word. For example, if the first three people say the letters P, L, and A, the next player would NOT say Y, because that would spell out the word "PLAY", causing them to lose the round. At any time, a player can use his turn to challenge the previous player to prove that the current fragment is actually the beginning of a word. If the challenged player can name such a word, the challenger loses the round; otherwise the challenged player loses the round. This encourages players to actually have words in mind as they play, as opposed to just stating random letters. Score is kept using the letters of the word "GHOST", with each loss giving the player the next letter of the word, and a player being eliminated when they have all five letters (like the basketball game HORSE).
New Testament Pyramid
This is a simple, but surprisingly fun challenge. Collect two sets of 27 disposable drinking cups (in two different colors). Using a permanent marker, write out the books of the New Testament on the cups. Then, split your group in half and challenge the teams to race to build the New Testament pyramid. First, they should find Matthew and line up the cups through 1 Corinthians. Place 2 Corinthians on the second level between Matthew and mark. Continue stacking the New Testament Pyramid, topping it with the “New Testament” cup (see photo). First to do so successfully wins!
